UAE weather update: Rain hits Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah as temperatures dip
Daytime highs expected near 30°C in major cities today
DUBAI – Residents across several parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) woke up to rain-soaked streets and cloudy skies on Wednesday morning, as showers swept across parts of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
The rainfall followed earlier forecasts issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), which had predicted partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy conditions with a chance of rain over coastal, northern and eastern areas. Wet roads and light showers were reported in several locations during the early hours of March 11.
Cooler weather accompanied the rainfall, with temperatures dipping overnight across parts of the country as cloud cover increased and winds remained active in some areas.
Rainfall scenes
Videos circulating on social media showed rain falling across multiple areas of the country, with weather monitoring platforms such as Storm Centre sharing footage of showers moving across the emirates.
In Abu Dhabi, rainfall was reported near the iconic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where wet roads and light rain were captured in early morning visuals.
Moderate rain was also reported in parts of Dubai, where motorists encountered damp roads and cloudy skies during the morning commute.
Meanwhile, rainfall in Madam led to water collecting along sections of the road network, with localised overflow reported in the area.
Weather observers noted that the rainfall brought brief relief from the warmer temperatures experienced earlier in the week, as cloud cover increased across the country.
Temperature drop
Alongside the rain, temperatures across the UAE dropped overnight, particularly in mountainous regions.
The lowest temperature recorded in the country was 11.6°C, measured at midnight at Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain peak.
The cooler mountain climate frequently records the lowest temperatures in the country, especially during late night and early morning hours.
Earlier data from the National Centre of Meteorology had also shown warm conditions during the previous day, with the highest temperature reaching 36.1°C in Al Arad and Mezaira.
These contrasting readings highlight the variation in temperatures across the UAE, particularly between inland desert regions and elevated mountain areas.
Today’s forecast
Weather conditions across the country on Wednesday are expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy at times, according to the NCM.
Humidity levels are forecast to increase during the night and into Thursday morning in some coastal and inland areas, which may lead to slightly hazy conditions early in the day.
Temperatures during the daytime are expected to climb to around 30°C in Abu Dhabi, 29°C in Dubai, and 28°C in Sharjah. Overnight lows are forecast at 20°C in Abu Dhabi, 21°C in Dubai, and 20°C in Sharjah.
Wind and sea
Winds across the UAE are expected to remain light to moderate, occasionally becoming more active during the day.
The sea in the Arabian Gulf is forecast to remain moderate to slight, while conditions in the Oman Sea are expected to be slight to moderate, potentially becoming rough at times during the morning.
Meteorological monitoring continues across the country as cloud systems move across the region, bringing intermittent rainfall and cooler conditions to several emirates through the day.
